"#20"
Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
"Just as the autumn sheds the leaves of the trees, we must shed the weight of the past. We can no more bear the burden of yesterday than a summer maple can bear a blizzard. The blemished molehills that we carry as mountains will only slow us down as we trek through the uncharted plains of tomorrow. They’re more useful stripped of their lessons and left to be buried in the sands of time. The future is a blank slate and tracking the dirt of the past across it will only detract from the masterpiece you’re going to create."
Purgatory on Earth, the Sands Study documents the elegant beauty of the hellish dune landscape. The lore of purgatory is one of intense suffering, a place designed to punish the souls vanquished to it in order to purify them for eternal peace. The Sands Study is my attempt to capture the peace within the brutal landscape of the sand dunes. You can read the entire series statement and browse the rest of the collection here.
