"#29"

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado

"The matrix isn’t perfect. There are glitches, wrinkles in the fabric of our existence that degrade our sovereignty. Take an idea, any thought, and trace it back. The origin is unknown, the sower an enigma operating under the alias of consciousness. Creation happens within us but it does not come from us. We are merely vessels, tools of a higher power to carry out actions in our world that it cannot in its. Or maybe not. Maybe it’s talent, a hereditary talent as intertwined in our genes as the color of our eyes. Maybe it’s learned, through rigorous training, formal education, and master apprenticeships. Maybe. But how can you not bet on yourself with an omnipotent benefactor slipping aces up your sleeve."

Purgatory on Earth, the Sands Study documents the elegant beauty of the hellish dune landscape. The lore of purgatory is one of intense suffering, a place designed to punish the souls vanquished to it in order to purify them for eternal peace. The Sands Study is my attempt to capture the peace within the brutal landscape of the sand dunes. You can read the entire series statement and browse the rest of the collection here.
