"#15"
Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
"We are bound to this planet, a tiny marble floating in eternity that feels like it’s shrinking everyday. The Earth isn’t the thing getting smaller though. Our world has shrunk, our life fits in our pocket, our community is a galaxy away, and although our ability to connect has exploded we feel alone. The answers to our problems aren’t floating in space, they’re held in the unexplored universe that is our self. A rocket through the cosmos will reveal fewer wonders than a walk with our subconscious. We don’t need to colonize a new frontier, we need to plant a flag on the unclaimed territory of I."
Purgatory on Earth, the Sands Study documents the elegant beauty of the hellish dune landscape. The lore of purgatory is one of intense suffering, a place designed to punish the souls vanquished to it in order to purify them for eternal peace. The Sands Study is my attempt to capture the peace within the brutal landscape of the sand dunes. You can read the entire series statement and browse the rest of the collection here.
