"#19"

White Sands National Park, New Mexico

"Although peace manifests in many ways, the sensation is always the same. Our mind is eased, our stress dissolved, as sweeping bliss consumes the soul. The path by which we arrive is of little consequence. No matter how long it takes to walk the twisted trail through the dark, the glory of the light at the end will always nullify the strife. While some rush to expedite the process, clinging to hollow fallacies to conceal impatience and insecurity, the journey to peace cannot be forced. We must feel uncomfortable before we can feel at ease, we must struggle in the dark to know the light. Open your heart, lead with love, honesty, and compassion and you will feel the calming warmth of nirvana calling you home."

Purgatory on Earth, the Sands Study documents the elegant beauty of the hellish dune landscape. The lore of purgatory is one of intense suffering, a place designed to punish the souls vanquished to it in order to purify them for eternal peace. The Sands Study is my attempt to capture the peace within the brutal landscape of the sand dunes. You can read the entire series statement and browse the rest of the collection here.
